Helping My Admin Breakout!

One day my principal asked me for some help. She was part of a district wide administrators’ book study (The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth by John C. Maxwell). Her group was responsible for leading a review of chapter 4, The Law of Reflection. She wanted their activity to be engaging & interactive while also demonstrating reflection after a shared experience. Her first thought was to have a breakout box but wasn’t sure how to tie in the reflection piece. I showed her how each kit comes with a deck of reflection cards which can be used to conduct a debrief. We built a simple three lock breakout where inside the box the group put pieces of ‘Take 5’ candy (nice edible reminder to take five and reflect). Embedded below is a picture of a kit (with an added component I found; a pen which is kinda a cross between a Rubik’s cube and a plastic sliding puzzle; thought this would be a great clue for a color lock as long as no one fiddles with it).

If you have been asked to design an activity for administrators, what did you have the admin do? I would love to learn/read about it in the comments below.
